AI search visibility for clinics in the Austin metro (AEO and GEO)

AI search visibility means your clinic is named when a patient asks ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, Gemini or Copilot for a provider nearby. ClinicRankPro earns those mentions by opening your site to AI crawlers, publishing llms.txt, rewriting service pages to answer first, and making your practice the same entity everywhere, then tracks 10 prompts every month.

What is AI search, in plain words?

AI search is when a person types a question into an assistant instead of a search box and gets a written answer with a few names in it, rather than ten blue links. “Who is a good dentist in Round Rock that takes Delta Dental?” gets a paragraph naming two or three practices. Google now does the same above its own results with AI Overviews and AI Mode. Two terms you will hear:

  • AEO (answer engine optimisation): making your pages the direct answer to a question, so snippets, AI Overviews and voice assistants quote them.
  • GEO (generative engine optimisation): making your clinic the entity ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot recommend when asked for a provider.

Why do clinics lose “best dentist near me” to an AI answer?

Because the assistant answers before the searcher ever sees the map pack, and it names the practices it can read, identify and corroborate. If your site blocks its crawler, your pages bury the answer under a hero image, and your name, address and services differ between your profile, Yelp and Healthgrades, you are not one of them. The usual causes, in the order we find them:

  1. Crawlers blocked. robots.txt or a firewall rule stops GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended, OAI-SearchBot or Applebot. Often a security plugin default.
  2. No direct answers. Service pages open with marketing copy, not with what the service is, who it is for, what it costs and what to expect.
  3. Weak entity signals. “Family dentist” on Google, “cosmetic dental studio” on the website, an old phone number on Yelp. The assistant is not sure who you are.
  4. No corroboration. No association directory, insurance directory, local press or chamber listing describes you the same way.
  5. Reviews without detail. “Great, 5 stars” tells an assistant nothing. Reviews that mention the treatment, how anxious patients were looked after, and how costs were explained are what it matches against.
  6. Not in Bing’s index. ChatGPT and Copilot lean on Bing. Many clinic sites have never been submitted to Bing Webmaster Tools.

You can see what the assistants say about clinics in your city right now on the What AI says page, and request the same check for your practice.

What do you actually do?

A foundation at onboarding, then one or two corroboration actions a month, then measurement. The foundation is the same for every clinic and is what the $900 AI Readiness Setup delivers on its own.

StepWhat we doWhen
Open the doorsAllow AI crawlers in robots.txt and any firewall; submit the site to Bing Webmaster Tools and IndexNow; confirm main content is in the HTML, not injected by JavaScriptOnboarding, then checked weekly
llms.txtA factual Markdown summary of the practice, providers, services, locations, insurance and key URLs, live at your site rootOnboarding, updated on any change
Make the entity unmistakableOne agreed description reused word for word on the site, Google profile, llms.txt, directories and social; clinic-type schema with sameAs links; Person schema for each provider with credentialsOnboarding, maintained monthly
Answer-first pagesService pages rewritten so the first paragraph answers the question, headings are questions, costs and insurance are stated as ranges with a date, and a provider is credited as reviewerOne at onboarding; two a month on Growth
FAQ layer5–8 real patient questions per service page, answered in 2–4 sentences, marked up with FAQ schemaWith each page
Apple Business ConnectListing verified, specific category, Book and Call actions, photos; Yelp kept complete because Apple Maps pulls from itOnboarding
Reviews that carry attributesRequest wording that asks patients to mention the treatment and the experience, never the sentiment; no gating, no incentivesMonth 1 onward
CorroborationAssociation and insurance directories, local press quotes, chamber listings, alumni pages, podcasts; monitor local forums to learn what patients ask, never post undisclosed recommendationsOne or two actions a month
Measurement10 prompts across five assistants, three runs each; AI Overview presence; referral visits from assistants in GA4; Bing clicksBaseline, then monthly

How is it measured?

Ten prompts, agreed with you at onboarding, run against each assistant three times a month. For each we record whether you are named, in what position, which competitors are named, and which sources the assistant cited. The result is a table in every monthly report showing this month versus last month versus baseline, plus a list of sources the assistants trust that you are not on yet, which becomes the next month’s outreach list.

Example prompts for a dental practice in Round Rock: “best dentist in Round Rock”, “emergency dentist open now near Round Rock”, “who does Invisalign in Round Rock”, “dentist in Round Rock that takes Delta Dental”, “[practice name] reviews”.

How long does it take?

First mentions typically arrive 2 to 4 months after the foundation work, if the practice already has decent reviews and rankings. A practice with few reviews, a new domain or a blocked crawler history sits at the long end. The foundation itself takes 10 business days.

What do you not promise?

We do not promise that any assistant will name you, for any prompt, by any date. The assistants change their sources and their answers vary between runs. What we promise is the foundation delivered on schedule, every prompt measured every month, and the reasons explained when a mention does not come. AI mentions are earned, not bought, and the same work lifts your Google rankings, so none of it is wasted.

What does it cost?

The AI readiness basics (crawler access, llms.txt, FAQ schema) are in every retainer from Starter at $800–1,200 a month. Monthly tracking of the 10 prompts is in Growth ($1,500–2,500 a month) and Multi-Location ($1,200–1,800 per location). On its own, the AI Readiness Setup is $900 one-time, delivered in 10 business days, with no retainer, and credited against your setup fee if you move to Starter within 90 days. Frequently asked questions

What is AEO and what is GEO?

AEO, answer engine optimisation, is making your pages the direct answer to a question so featured snippets, AI Overviews and voice assistants quote them. GEO, generative engine optimisation, is making your clinic the entity that ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot recommend when someone asks for a provider. We do both, and most of the work overlaps with local SEO.

Can you pay to appear in ChatGPT or Perplexity answers?

Not in most assistants at the time of writing. Mentions are earned from what the assistants can read and corroborate. That is why early movers keep their position: there is no ad slot to be outbid on.

How do you know whether an AI assistant names my clinic?

We run 10 set prompts, such as “best dentist in Round Rock” or “who does Invisalign near Cedar Park”, against ChatGPT with search, Perplexity, Google AI Mode and AI Overviews, Gemini and Copilot. Each prompt is run three times a month. We record whether you are named, in what position, and which sources the assistant cited, and report the trend.

How long until an AI assistant mentions my practice?

Typically 2 to 4 months after the foundation work if your practice already has decent reviews and rankings, and longer if it does not. Assistant answers vary between runs, so we report “named in 2 of 3 runs” rather than a single result.

Why does my website block AI crawlers?

Many security plugins and firewalls block GPTBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot by default, and some robots.txt files were copied from templates that block them. The site owner rarely knows. It is the first thing we check and usually the quickest fix.

What is llms.txt?

A short plain-text file at your site root that describes the practice, its providers, services, locations and key pages in Markdown. It gives assistants a clean, factual summary to read. We write it from the same agreed description used on your profile and site, and keep it in sync.

Does the AI work help with normal Google rankings too?

Yes. Answer-first pages, FAQ schema, provider bios, consistent citations and detailed reviews are the same things Google rewards. Nothing in the AI layer is wasted even for a prompt where an assistant never names you.

What can go wrong when an assistant describes my clinic?

It can say you are closed, list an old address, or name a service you do not offer. Almost always it is quoting a stale directory or an old profile. We find the source it cites, fix that source, update llms.txt and the site, and re-check in 2 to 4 weeks.
